What You Should Know About TPS

James • Apr 07, 2021

Following the announcement by President Trump of Venezuelan DED, President Biden’s administration has issued Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans. TPS for Venezuelans is designated through September 9, 2022 and the registration period is March 9, 2021 through September 5, 2021. TPS is designated due to conditions within a country that render the country unable to adequately handle the return of their nationals from the United States. TPS can be designated for many reasons, including ongoing armed conflict, an environmental disaster, an epidemic, or other extraordinary or temporary conditions.

Temporary protected status allows individuals to obtain a work permit in the United States for the duration of their TPS. Those who have been convicted of a felony or two or more misdemeanors in the United States are not eligible for TPS. To apply, individuals must submit the I-821 immigration form along with supplemental evidence required by USCIS.
